'Eric and Ernie meet the Men in Black'
The two latest dates on our tour were just as much fun as those in Cumbria. We were made very welcome in Tarvin by Anne and Allen and the hall is excellent. Although everyone seems a bit pessimistic about the numbers, in the end around 90 people turn out to see the show. The first half is still running at one hour evidence that at least we are having a great time. We have now adopted the quote from Claire 'Eric and Ernie meet the men in black' as our new strap line. Thanks again to everyone involved. The Barbour institute has quite a history and is a lovely venue, we are treated to a great meal and made to feel very welcome, the cabaret style seating works very well and the numbers are as expected, thanks we suspect to hard work from Linda and all the other volunteer promoters.

The Tour Begins
After what seems like an age but was in fact two years, James and I at last found ourselves in a rural touring venue ready to perform our new show 6 Impossible Things. The first venue at Bowness on Solway was exactly as we had imagined, the space was perfect, the welcome we received from Bill warm and friendly and the audience a mix ages. First performances are always a nervous time but thanks to a generous audience and some inspired improvisation mainly from James we made it through and were generally happy with the show. Next Brigham and another delightful hall with friendly and enthusiastic staff. A special mention to Anne who served us a lovely chilli with accompanying nachos and rice. The show goes better and we feel more relaxed, finally on to Drigg and Carelton Parish Hall where John kindly lets us in early so we can tweak some of the lighting cues. The show is technically the best so far and so back to base to make some more edits before we go to Cheshire next week. Thanks to all the venue staff who made us so welcome.

Work In Progress
We have started the process of creating ‘Six Impossible Things’. Working with
Lou Glandfield and Brian
Popay on ideas and
story, we have also begun discussions with several of the artists who may contribute
to the commissioned content including Bryan Tweddle (IOU) and Chris Squire
(Impossible Theatre). This week we are producing the first of our video teases
and these will be available on the new www.6impossiblethings.org.uk site very soon.
Avanti Display Goes Indoors
After
over two decades of performing in the great outdoors Avanti Display are teaming
up with Artizani to create an indoor show. The Northern Rural Touring Network
has commissioned us to create the piece and the Arts Council through the Grants
for the Arts program has funded it. It will begin its tour across the five
regions from Mid October 2013. The title
‘6 Impossible things’ is a sly and passing reference to Alice In
Wonderland but it is in fact the story of two seasoned entertainers
as they reflect on a life spent on the road. In a show that plays fast and
loose with fact and fiction, magic and science, things are never quite what
they seem, and they
have a secret, ‘just what did happened that night in Grimsby’? The show
will feature specially commissioned work from several artists and is being made
at Edge Hill University where there will be a performance on 20th November.
‘Six Impossible Things’ uses physical comedy, conjuring, music and film
animation to tell the story of what it is like to spend your life delivering
the impossible. Anyone who has seen Avanti Display or Artizani on the festival
circuit will know what to expect, for the rest come along and see six
impossible things and one you rather wish you hadn’t!
